Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill Winery is a renowned winery located in South Australia's McLaren Vale wine region, known for producing high-quality red wines, particularly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache. It has a rich history and was once a historic chapel and schoolhouse.

Chapel Hill Winery, nestled in the Seaview community near Adelaide, has a rich history that began in 1865 when it was a cherished local landmark hosting social events and serving as a school. However, by 1965, changing times led to the chapel's abandonment.

In 1971, Professor Tom Nelson stumbled upon this forgotten chapel and the surrounding land. Initially, he considered it for his wife's horses, but his vision changed, and he planted a vineyard in 1972, laying the foundation for the winery's establishment in 1975. The Gerard family assumed exclusive ownership in 1985 and made significant investments.

A pivotal moment occurred when winemaker Pam Dunsford joined the team, breaking gender barriers in the Australian wine industry. Under her guidance, Chapel Hill gained recognition for its accessible yet classic wines. In 2022, Pam Dunsford was honored with the prestigious Maurice O'Shea Award for her exceptional contributions.

Chapel Hill Winery's transformation from a forgotten chapel to a renowned wine producer is a testament to the blend of tradition and innovation, solidifying its enduring presence in the Australian wine landscape.
